In the UK people try this all the time, they just get licence plates printed the normal way an go about speeding, stealing and all sorts of other crimes but there is a rising amount of people pretending this has happend to them by changing a few details on their car after they have been flashed, for example one man bought different coloured wiper blades and wing mirrors and put stickers in his windows to claim that someone with a similar car had cloned his plates to go speeding, when being investigated the police found all the reciepts for the items in his bedroom, they didnt even need to go further than that, he had kept all the evidence! He was stripped of his licenece and has been sentenced to a year in prison for numerous traffic offences and evading the course of justice. not so clever now huh!

They should have used the license plates of the politicians that voted to install the cameras,

I don't need to follow speed limits, bonehead. I'm safer, more alert, and infinitely more capable on a motorcycle than 99% of you car driving nincompoops. I can guarantee you won't ever find me doing my nails, stuffing a burger into my face, making an executive phone call, texting, or trying to avoid the INS by driving 50 mph under the speed limit, so pound sand.

You forgot to mention also that in the case of speeding they have found that most people drive safer at high speeds as they are more apt to pay attention due the adrenalin from going fast enhancing their senses. Also like you brought up because of habeous corpus almost every time a lawsuit has been brought against these type of law enforcement schemes they have been forced to stop them. It will only take someone willing to sue over this for it to be made an invasion of privacy as that's what it is.

@3 A lot of speed limits were actually lowered during the 70s during the oil crisis in the hopes of forcing those who could afford high prices to burn less fuel. This has still hung around today despite the fact that people drive safely based on their own judgment. It has been repeatedly shown that the more rules there are telling one how to drive, the less safe any given person will drive. So there goes your "safety" argument, and I could get into Habeus Corpus and the right to meet your accuser face to face in court, but that's for another day.

To all the whiners showing disdain for those who break the law: stop being so anal, I'm pretty sure you've done it at some point, don't be such a fucking elitist. I don't think what these kids are doing is right, but its pretty damn creative. Now lets find them some outlets for this creativity.

Not gonna lie, I'd do this. Haha.

And to the people who think cameras at intersections are so bad? get some fucking common sense.

if its such a big problem why don't they just have cops sitting there to pull these kids over? using cameras without having people to check up on them is just saying that this type of thing is ok. unless you contact the person in the car while they are in the car you have no clue who is driving..

I'm not supportive of anyone who breaks the law, but the principle of these cameras is arguably wrong. I should be able to confront a witness in court to defend myself, not argue with fallible technology. Especially where situations like this are possible. How does one prove that some kid shopped your plate and drove a similar make/model?
