Kids Prank using Speed Cameras
In a truly awesome display of intelligence and defiance of the law, teens in Montgomery County, Maryland have been photoshoping fake license plates of their enemies, taping them to their own cars, and speeding through an area with traffic ticket cameras.
The Speed Camera Program was implemented in March of this year and used for the purpose of reducing traffic and pedestrian collisions in the county. Cameras are located in residential areas and school zones where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or lower. A $40 citation is mailed to the owner of the car for violating the speed limit in these areas.
The ingenuity of today’s teenagers is truly awe inspiring. They would even go as far as to borrow car’s so they would appear similar to the make and model of the car they were pranking.
Edward Owusu, Assistant Principal at Wootton High School, said that he heard of local students pulling the prank when the school received a call from a parent informing them of its occurrence. “I have not heard of this happening among students at Wootton,” Osuwu said. “It is unfortunate that kids have a lot of time on their hands that they can think of doing such a thing.”
That sounds a lot like “I can’t believe a bunch of high school kids are outsmarting the entire police force.” Since the local cops appear to be totally clueless of the prank, it appears the kids are doing a good job covering their tracks.
I applaud these guys and hope to see more fighting against the surveillance society, be thee mere geeks or evil masterminds.

LOVE THIS!!!
Totally man! Rock on!
Yeah – that’s really cool, until someone crossing the road in one of those residential areas and school zones gets hit by one of these boneheads…
Speed limits are there for a reason, and anyone who speeds deserves everything they get. Do you really think you have the right to privacy when you’re speeding and endangering life and limb?
@3
yes.
because going a little faster than 35mph isnt on my list of things that endanger life and limb.
My mother used to say, everything is games and fun till someone loses an eye…

I’m not supportive of anyone who breaks the law, but the principle of these cameras is arguably wrong. I should be able to confront a witness in court to defend myself, not argue with fallible technology. Especially where situations like this are possible. How does one prove that some kid shopped your plate and drove a similar make/model?

if its such a big problem why don’t they just have cops sitting there to pull these kids over? using cameras without having people to check up on them is just saying that this type of thing is ok. unless you contact the person in the car while they are in the car you have no clue who is driving..
To all the whiners showing disdain for those who break the law: stop being so anal, I’m pretty sure you’ve done it at some point, don’t be such a fucking elitist. I don’t think what these kids are doing is right, but its pretty damn creative. Now lets find them some outlets for this creativity.
Not gonna lie, I’d do this. Haha.
And to the people who think cameras at intersections are so bad? get some fucking common sense.
first
@3 A lot of speed limits were actually lowered during the 70s during the oil crisis in the hopes of forcing those who could afford high prices to burn less fuel. This has still hung around today despite the fact that people drive safely based on their own judgment. It has been repeatedly shown that the more rules there are telling one how to drive, the less safe any given person will drive. So there goes your “safety” argument, and I could get into Habeus Corpus and the right to meet your accuser face to face in court, but that’s for another day.
@12
You forgot to mention also that in the case of speeding they have found that most people drive safer at high speeds as they are more apt to pay attention due the adrenalin from going fast enhancing their senses. Also like you brought up because of habeous corpus almost every time a lawsuit has been brought against these type of law enforcement schemes they have been forced to stop them. It will only take someone willing to sue over this for it to be made an invasion of privacy as that’s what it is.
I don’t need to follow speed limits, bonehead. I’m safer, more alert, and infinitely more capable on a motorcycle than 99% of you car driving nincompoops. I can guarantee you won’t ever find me doing my nails, stuffing a burger into my face, making an executive phone call, texting, or trying to avoid the INS by driving 50 mph under the speed limit, so pound sand.
They should have used the license plates of the politicians that voted to install the cameras,
