Float On: Wash gets a One-Shot Comic

Wash was always one of my favorite characters and when he died in the final act of Serenity, it felt like I just lost my best friend.  This won’t bring back my favorite starship captain, but  it may be as close as we get. Wash is getting a One-Shot Comic featuring old stories from his days before Firefly.  The comic will be titled Serenity: Float On and be published by Dark Horse on June 2nd.

Playstation Move Games Announced

Sony has been announced the official name for the Playstation Motion Controller at GDC and it is The Playstation Move. It is definitely not my favorite name of the options (Gem, Arc, etc) but the actual controller looks great. It will feature sports game and a game called Move Party, which appears to be the game demoed at past events that uses the PS Eye. The game displays the player inside the game settings and transforms the controller into your tool used in the game (ie razor, paintbrush, fan).

The Playstation Move will be compatible with LittleBigPlanet.  The normal controller will be used to control the sackboy while a player using the Move can control the environment.

The PS Move will also be used with Eye Pet to control items like the cards do normally.

The Playstation Move will also have a sub-controller to help players move, similar to the Wii Nunchuk. Using the two controllers, Socom will be full playable from beginning to end.

Here is a picture of the “Move” symbol:

Do You Hate Fun? Try Farmville!

This video is for all of the people who constantly send out messages to send gifts or be friends on Farmville.  I hate you with a red hot passion.  I use Facebook to talk to friends and pimp the Last Geek fan page. I have no interest in finding out what Twilight guy is perfect for me or playing games on Facebook, that’s why I have three video game consoles.

Tron: Legacy Trailer

This trailer looks five kinds of epic.  It has just the right mixture of fanfare for the orginal Tron fans and modern awesomeness.  I also like that is a sequel instead of a shitty reboot.  The Karate Kid can definitely learn something from Tron.  Tron: Legacy comes out December 17th, 2010.

God of War Made Me Ignore My Girlfriend

This commercial is awesome for two very good reasons:

1) It depicts how so many girl feels about their boyfriends every time a huge title game comes out that true gamers can not resist to sit down and keep playing it till our eyes bleed. In fact, it really doesn’t matter the game or how often you play it, I’ve heard it from just about any girl who knows a guy who at one point held a controller (not including the relatively few gamer girls I know).

2) They are so clearly and blatantly marketing this to guys.  In an age where you have to be so politically correct to everyone, and Sony being one of the worse, I love how their commercial just spells out how this game isn’t made to appeal to girls and we really don’t give a shit.

Slow Motion Science and Philosophy

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this video except it is poetically awesome. The ending line rocks so hard. By the way, the voice is probably Stephen Hawking but I don’t know sure; If you do please leave a comment.

How Project Natal Works

I wrote a few days ago about how Natal stacks up against the PS Eye, but after listening to the 4Guy1Up Podcast I learned some more details about how Natal works.  We already know Natal has two cameras capable of detecting Red/Green/Blue.  The podcast explained Natal also gives off a small infrared light (similar to what the Wii uses) and is able to detect how far the light travels.  This technology uses the same principle radars do.  I will admit, this make it far more likely Natal will provide more accurate motion control than the PS Eye or even Wii.  If they can get rid of the delay we have seen, it might finally fulfill people’s dreams of have good motion control games.

Guide to Survivng Mass Effect 2

This Guide Contains Spoilers

Mass Effect 2 does a good job of reminding you that you are on a suicide mission.  Every member of your crew can die, including you.  While it is easy to lose members, it is possible to complete the final mission with your full crew alive. This guide should give you an idea what you need to do in order to survive the final mission.

This isn’t a guarantee on what is required to survive, but more to make you aware of everything.  I’ve beaten the game with all surviving and played while losing half the crew.  Based on this, I’ve come to some conclusions on possible variables.

Definite:

(These things are spelled out very clearly by the game on numerous occasions)

Collect all crew members – More people means more guns.  It also means you have more selection on who to use for each task on the final mission.

Completing Loyalty Missions – Just because you don’t do someone’s loyalty mission doesn’t mean they will die, but it increases the chance of them failing and causing someone to die.

Upgrades to Ship – This specifically refers to the weapons and shields of the Normandy.  These become available by asking the crew members if they have any ideas for Normandy upgrades.  Here is a list of the upgrades you will definitely need: Heavy Ship Armor, Multicore Shielding, Thanix Cannon

Selection of members on final mission – You will be required to pick which members handle each task on the final mission including: going through the pipe to unlock the door, leading the other squad, protecting the crew against the swarm, and traveling with you.  Each of these choices leave the characters vulnerable to death, while I don’t know for sure what the best answers are I will provide the choices I made during the mission I survived at the bottom of this guide.

Mario Shelves and Table

As a graphic design major I am just impressed by how well made it is, from the construction of the pipe to the paint job on the shelves.  It looks really awesome and I would love to make something similar, only a lot more poorly done. That’s how I roll.

Eye Toy Vs Project Natal

This is video taking apart the Xbox Natal demonstration and trailer and comparing it to Playstation Eye Toy (PS2) and PS Eye (PS3).  Each has promised the same things at some point and each probably managed to pull it off, except only under the most precise conditions.

I know Eye of Judgement was impressive when they first showed it; but when the game actually came out, it only ran under just the right lighting conditions.  The Eye Toy games ran even worse.

Project Natal most likely will top the PS Eye but not enough.  There is no way its going to work in low light rooms.  Motion games will still be a gimmick this generation, we don’t have the technology to make work it effectively at a price people will buy it.
